Gzip compression missing means the server is not compressing text-based assets (HTML, CSS, JS, JSON) before sending them over HTTP, so the browser downloads full-size uncompressed files. This is usually a server or CDN configuration gap, either the compression module isn't enabled (e.g., mod_deflate/mod_gzip in Apache, gzip directive in Nginx) or it's disabled for certain MIME types. Why this happens
Compression has to be explicitly enabled at the server or CDN layer, mod_deflate or mod_gzip in Apache, the gzip directive in Nginx, and on shared or managed hosting the site owner often doesn't have direct access to that configuration layer at all. Some hosting environments also only compress certain MIME types by default, so HTML and CSS get compressed while JSON API responses or certain font files are served uncompressed without anyone realizing the gap is partial rather than total. Migrations between hosts are a common trigger, since server config from the old environment doesn't automatically transfer to the new one.
